Luminous bodies:
A Collaboration

Orion Fredericks and Janet Fredericks

Both sculpture and painting “luminous bodies” suggest otherworldly and earthbound forms creating and ethereal glowing environment, a kind of primordial sea, that seems to flow (as lights dim and brighten) in a rhythmic trance. Aural resonance from within these vessels emanates and harmonizes in a continuous conversation. Suggesting immanent flight or having just landed, these light bodies of immense weightlessness suspended from above while others balance on the floor. In this atmosphere one is invited to enjoy the quiet of ones own inner luminosity.
Accompanying the above bodies will be working sketches, drawings and paintings that document the evolution of these beings.

Materials

Various metals accented with synthetics work as 3 dimensional support for traditional and non-traditional drawing and painting materials. Incorporated into selected bodies will be resonance chambers of glass, and low voltage lighting. Of these pieces some are suspended from high-tension guy wires while others rest on the floor. Viewers will be able to walk around these structurally sound bodies and even touch them. Illumination will come from external and internal sources.

Of the work you see, there are two veins of thought. One is an exploration of the life of water and its transformative power on organic structures. The Other vein, (titled by their number in order of their creation) is a series of
sculptures in progress. These pieces will be made of hand forged and woven metals as well as silk and glass. All of these works will also be illuminated by a “breathing” light from within and displayed in suspension. My cumulative intent with these veins is the expression of the inherent beauty and language of the organic.
